Late 17th century English oak chest of drawers, geometric moulding
A great example of a late 17th century English geometric moulded chest of drawers, primarily oak with pine inner drawers etc. as is common for the period. Wonderful warm but dark patination and colour throughout, with original brass escutcheons and replacement (but period correct) brass drop handles. The piece splits into two halves to facilitate easier movement but stands good and sturdy, held by locating pegs, an original feature. One of the back panels, at the top, appears to have been replaced, likely in 1909 due to this date being written on it in paint (as pictured), this also likely being when the handles were changed back to ones better replicating the originals, instead of the ‘swan necks’ which would have been added at some point in the 18th century- the shadows of which a faintly visible still, as pictured.
