Ancient natural history, Whitby Jurassic period dinosaur footprint theropod fossil

£195.00

An incredible, complete fossilised dinosaur footprint, likely from an theropod, dating from the Jurassic period (roughly 180-200 million years ago), originally found at the coast at Whitby, an area well known for its rich Jurassic geology and dinosaur trackways. Unlike the more commonly seen depressed footprints (where the animal’s foot pressed into soft sediment), this example is a natural cast — meaning the original footprint was later filled with sediment which hardened over millions of years. The surrounding, softer material has since eroded away, leaving the footprint itself standing proud as a raised form. These are often considered more sculptural and visually engaging than negative impressions. W 33cm x H 24cm x D 14cm (whole stone).
