A very finely made late 17th/ early 18th century French iron strong box, on a possibly later but extremely fine and decorative hand made wrought iron stand. Missing a key and the lock bar. From the private collection of the esteemed New York based arts dealer Alan Winston (1930–2021) a specialist in primitive arts and early ironwork- his gallery, Winston House (c.1960-80), being a notable fixture in the New York art and antique scene and a favourite haunt of the likes of Truman Capote and Dick Cavett.
