A very rare late 15th century/early 16th century wrought iron church alms or offertory box, English or French.
Front is original (with period patched repairs), original lock, top original, left side appears original in the main, remnants of the original base. Right side, back, hinges and bottom are period restorations, probably from the 18th and early 19th century, appearing to be made from scraps of recycled iron (primarily pieces of a large deconstructed lock plate) implying a country blacksmith's workshop, likely all repairs that were made during its working life.
