


























unusual 18th century lead tobacco jar
A finely cast late 18th/early 19th century English octagonal lead tobacco jar featuring high-relief medallions of a classical male head to the front and female head on one of the side panels (there looks to have been another on the other side, now lost) flanked by traces of original gilding and red paint. The lid is pyramidal and faceted, with a cast knop finial of a human head, and sits above a secondary interior lid for sealing contents.
